Auburn kicker Daniel Carlson was the hero in last Saturday’s win over LSU, as he was a perfect 6-for-6 on field goal tries. Those six field goals were enough to push Auburn to a 18-13 win.
On Monday, Carlson received recognition for his hard work.
Carlson was named a “Lou Groza Star of the Week” following his performance. The committee said of Carlson, “Tigers coach Gus Malzahn had good reason to call Daniel Carlson the best kicker in college football after the junior from Colorado Springs, CO kicked six field goals to provide all the scoring in the Auburn’s 18-13 defeat of LSU in Auburn, AL on Saturday night. Carlson, a 2015 Groza Award finalist, connected from 51, 37, 31 and three times from 29 yards to break his career record and tie the school mark for field goals in a game. He is 12-for-12 on the season and has made 29 of his last 30 field goals. His 50 points lead all Tigers in scoring and rank him fourth among FBS kickers.”
The Southeastern Conference also named Carlson as the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week for his contributions to Auburn’s win. This is the second time that Carlson has received the honor, he was named player of the week following the Arkansas State game, where he was 3-for-3 on field goal attempts, and he also had a touchdown on a fake field goal attempt.
This season, Carlson is 12-for-12 on field goal attempts. His longest is from 53-yards out, he did that against Clemson to open the season.
